Virtual Zeta Day 2021

real opportunities to connect online

Each spring, events held across the country bring Zetas together locally. Of course, in 2021, that was not an option.

So, on the national level, we planned Virtual Zeta Day: a week’s worth of online events and content that could bring the joy and connection that an in-person event normally would.

This project was a big collaboration between the Communication and Membership departments.

There were several elements of an in-person Zeta Day that we wanted to capture. Turning them digital was not an easy task, but we found ways to make each day special!

I built a Zeta Day specific website which housed all the videos, links, and information. The main event, however, was on Facebook, where we knew our target audience of engaged ZTA alumnae would interact.

We created a Facebook event for the week of festivities, and more than 2,900 people RSVPed to it.

Schedule

During the weeklong event, each day had a theme, culminating in an day-long Virtual Zeta Day event.

  • March 1: International Badge Day

  • March 2: National Roll Call

  • March 3: Pink, Passion and Purpose with the ZTA Foundation

  • March 4: Senior Celebration Day

  • March 5: Celebrating Alumnae Anniversaries

  • March 6: Virtual Zeta Day

Featured Content

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite pieces of content.

  • Create your own nametag post

    • Normally, at the event, you would recieve stickers and ribbons to add to your nametag. We wanted to replicate that digitally.

    • So, we crafted a caption with emoji that corresponded to different categories, and asked members to comment with their string of emoji to “create” their nametag.

    • For example, my nametag comment was:
      🔗🦸‍♀️🏆📆🔑💗💻

  • Alumnae anniversary playlists

    • At Zeta Day events, milestone anniversary celebrations are part of the fun. We wanted to make sisters who were celebrating 25-, 50-, and 75-year anniversaries felt special.

    • We created a video highlighting memories and world events that occurred during the year they were initiated. This video was so beloved that we have created it for in-person events every year since!

    • We also created playlists for the year each of these groups were initiated into ZTA, complete with custom cover art. We prompted members to comment their favorite songs in the Facebook event.

Results

More than 2,900 people “attended” the Facebook event.

11 posts asking people to interact garnered 1,779 comments and 875 reactions.

  • 161 comments/post on average

    • The “create your own nametag” post received 431 comments

  • 80 reactions/post on average

983 people opted in to the Zeta Day email newsletter, which was sent daily during the campaign.

Zetas across the country felt connected during a time when loneliness was pervasive.
